Art and Other Things

Interesting art pieces from around the world

Artists have been called many things before, but probably never… a dictator. However, New-York based Phillip Toledano declares himself a dictator. In an interview with Dazed Digital, Toledano states: “in a way, to being an artist, in that you have to create your own world and then populate that world with believers – people who believe in your creed your ethos.”

And if you know anything about art, you will definitely agree to what Phil is trying to say. As an artist, you have to create your own world that nobody has ever done before. You have to believe in yourself to be able to take a creative and innovative idea and transform it into a piece of art. It’s not always the easiest thing to do! So you definitely have to surround yourself with people you know and trust will help you with your process. Discouraging individuals must be separated, immediately.

So, I find Phil’s new project, Kim Jong Phil, insightful, but mostly witty and humorous. Pay attention to the titles of the paintings as well as the image:

A sporting chance. Oil on canvas, 30x40 inches

It's true. I'm utterly fascinating. Oil on canvas, 30x40 inches

Want to know something even more amusing? These prints were later sent to China to be copied. Does anybody see the iron in that?
